Adrian Tinsley Athletic Facility
Category: Athletic Facility
Project name: Adrian Tinsley Athletic Center
Location: Bridgewater, MA
Project Architect: Sasaki Associates
The new Adrian Tinsley Athletic Center is an 86,000 square foot multi-use athletic facility over looking the playing fields and the outdoor track. The Facility consolidates the Athletic and Movement Arts Departments into a single building.
The building is of structural steel frame, bar joist and metal decking. The full span steel trusses were delivered in three pieces and required the use of multiple cranes to erect each truss. The exterior walls are masonry and light gauge steel backing masonry and insulated panels. An extensive curtain wall system highlights the exterior elevations which includes a two story lobby which ties together the academic and athletic areas.
The interior design allows for simultaneous use for multiple activities. A competition level basketball/volleyball court with retractable bleacher seating for 1,000 spectators occupies one half of the gym while recreational courts for both sports occupy the other half. A suspended/cantilevered three lane track encircles the gym on the second floor. Locker rooms serve both recreational use and team activities.
The second floor contains departmental offices with views of the playing fields and classrooms, as well as, the Exercise Physiology and Biomechanical Labs for the study of motion and sports medicine.
