At JK Scanlan, we have the professional expertise required to construct high-performance Ice Skating Rinks. The demanding infrastructure and associated mechanical, electrical & utility services essential for an Arena of this caliber calls for seasoned veterans. The first stage of this state-funded, custom-designed skating rink was to demolish the existing rink to make room for the new. Demolition of any scope requires stringent precautions. These were compounded for the JK Scanlan Team due to an extremely tight site.
The all purpose rink has one sheet of NHL regulation size ice measuring 85' x 200' with underground heating that prevents frost build-up and can be used year round. Environmentally friendly products are used throughout the skating rink including non ozone depleting ammonia refrigerant and non-toxic propylene heat transfer fluid. The resultant structure is one story, 40,000 square feet consisting primarily of structural steel and masonry building materials. A dramatic roofline tops off this state-of-the-art ice skating arena.
Additional features of the building included:
- Four team rooms with showers
- Officials's rooms
- Manager's office
- Conference/function room
- Concession area
- Skate shop
- Public restrooms
The JK Scanlan Team served as Construction Manager at Risk (CM at Risk) on this project. CM at Risk is a formal contract process that designates the Construction Manager as a member of a collaborative project team. Its purpose is to centralize responsibility for the construction under a single contract and obtain a bonded guaranteed maximum price.
